About the Junior Orchestra program
We are excited to announce a new partnership with the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA)! Together, we are creating the CSMA Junior Orchestra by the Sunnyvale Youth Philharmonic.
This is the SYP’s entry-level program which is perfect for young musicians, ages 8-12, who are ready to start their journey in an orchestra.
CSMA students receive a discounted registration fee upon acceptance to the Junior Orchestra.
After completing the CSMA Junior Orchestra program, students can opt to join the Sunnyvale Youth Philharmonic program, for ages 12-18.

The Program
Enrolled students receive weekly 2-hour ensemble practices, which include full orchestra rehearsals, and dedicated coaching sessions with experienced faculty.
- Full orchestra rehearsals train students to play as an ensemble, with a focus on leadership skills, discipline, collaboration, and goal achievement.
- During coaching sessions, students refine their technique and address instrument-specific challenges. Faculty provide tailored feedback based on the orchestra’s repertoire and individual student progress.
- Throughout the season, we offer performance opportunities for students to showcase their skills.
