Winds Ensemble

Dedicated rehearsals, held Mondays from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, will foster musical growth, ensemble precision, and a lifelong appreciation for band music. Under the guidance of experienced conductors, members will refine their technical skills, enhance their musicality, and experience the joy of collaborative performance.

Audition Requirements
- Prepare a piece that demonstrates your technical skills and musical expressiveness.
- Be prepared to play a few scales of your choice. Be prepared to perform any articulations
- Sight reading excerpt may be giving to evaluate your reading skills


The rehearsal Structure
- 5:30-6:30 PM: Band Practice For the first rehearsal hour Band player can focus on repertory for winds instruments, exploring their skills and developing their instrument Technique
- 6:30-7:30 PM: Symphonic Orchestra Practice for the second hour, All band Players are required to rehearse with the Philharmonic developing different sets of skills and exploring more soloist opportunities.
Important Note: The Sunnyvale Youth Philharmonic is a prerequisite for participation in the Sunnyvale Youth Wind Ensemble, offering a comprehensive musical experience. The tiered structure of the SYP and the SYP Winds ensures that students have a strong foundation in musical knowledge and performance skills, as developed through their experience in the both classical worlds.
The Philharmonic program offers a comprehensive musical experience, including instruction in music theory, technique, and performance, as well as opportunities to play a wide range of repertoire in a variety of ensembles. By requiring participation in the Youth Philharmonic, the Band Philharmonic can maintain a high standard of musical excellence and provide its students with a challenging and rewarding musical experience.
